My daughter, Kendall Shields, recently introduced me to a totally new way to use my Reminders app. I had to share.
It’s one thing to use Reminders to help you remember to pick up the dry cleaning or make that dentist appointment you need. We’ve got how to do that stuff on lock down.
But to use the app to remind ourselves of our intentions, goals, and purpose?
Here are 4 totally new ways to use your Reminders apps for more than just picking up the dry cleaning.
This is Kendall’s strategy. She needed to make specific times in her swimming races to make the Olympic trials.
So, for a year previous to the trials, every day at 4am, those times popped up on her phone. This way, as she arose before dawn to drag herself to swim practice, she was reminded of WHY she was doing it. Kept her focus strong. (She made it to the Trials, read about it here.)
Once a week, I remind myself of 2 things I’d like to do with intention that week. And when the reminder pops up, I slot those suckers into my calendar.
It could be that I’m going to reach out to 2 friends who I haven’t connected with in awhile. Or that I want to take my son to frozen yogurt and spend some one-on-one time with him. Whatever it is, it’s good for me and for the person I’m loving on. Win win!
This one, is the KICKER for me. Because, the truth is, I struggle here.
I can know my purpose AND act with intention, but I can do both of those things with a crappy attitude. Ask my family. I have a duality in my personality that plagues me that way.
So, this reminder, its gotta be a daily thing. Just like my teenager is training her body to achieve a certain goal, I’ve got to train my MIND to live and act with a certain attitude.
