A Tool for the Penelope on the Go: Cascading File Tote

March 10, 2010

One of the great things about my job is that I get to work both from my office (where I get to catch up with my sassy co-workers – who happen to be some of my best friends) and from home, where I can get some time to concentrate.

The challenge that results, however, is the carrying of my paperwork back and forth. I always want to have my active files with me. I’m not really a briefcase kind of girl, so I was super excited to stumble across this tool from The Container Store: the Cascading Letter File Tote.

Look at that! At the office, you hang it from a convenient spot and all your files are handy. The clear pocket at the top can hold any thing you want. I’ll have it contain my Monthly Overview list, which keeps me on track for that month’s work. (It’s color coded and gorgeous, might I add.)

When you’re ready to go, you just fold up the tote and you’re off! And (you knew this was coming, didn’t you?) this tool gives you the perfect excuse to buy some cute new file folders, given that it offers a spiffy place to display them.

Might I suggest these?

Because my “active files” change often, I like to be able to quickly change with them without wasting folders. The Erasable File Folder Labels are a the perfect solution.

This system would also work well for someone who works from home all the time and has a small space in which to do that work. While the work is progress, you can have the tote open and be in “action mode” and when the day’s done, you fold it up and tuck it away. Out of sight, out of mind.

Ah, Container Store. Have I told you lately that I love you?

Wow, these are great finds! I love the erasable file folder! I can’t believe it’s taken them this long to come out with that. I’ve always hate to scratch through or put a label over another label. Just didn’t look as nice. So this is very neat! I love the Container Store too! I could spend way too long in there and way too much $$. ;-)

My schedule is similar to yours, and I have been thinking of ways to downsize since I have to bring files home as well. I think I am going to have to make a trip to my favorite store. Great post.

Great finds. I could get lost in an office supply store and these are so darn cute and make me want to get lost again soon. =]

So, I saw this quote today and thought of you and all of us Penelopes. Yeah, baby!

I love Suze Orman! In fact, weird fact about me, I appeared on her show as a guest last summer to talk about the mortgage crisis and how it has affected people who handle their finances responsibly.
The other thing Suze says that I think is so true is that she can tell the health of someone’s finances by looking at how they keep the interior of their car. Interesting, huh?

I love it all! I must have the Cascading File Tote and who ever invented the erasable pen for file labels is GENIUS. Thank you for giving me an excuse to go to one of my favorite places, The Container Store. Also, if you haven’t been there when they are having a sale you are truly missing out. They really knock prices off and give some amazing deals.

This is fantastic! I’ve just recently started working at home, and go back and forth a bit for now. I’ve been carrying a box with me and have been trying to figure out a better way. This is perfect – I ordered them and am picking them up tomorrow. Can’t wait! Thank you!
