For the longest time, I’ve wanted to get a set of dining furniture for our back deck. Nothing fancy, just a table, four chairs and an umbrella in a neutral palette. For reasons I can’t explain, I’ve put this off.
This spring, however, my husband and I decided it was time to get the deck up and running and who knows? Maybe have some people over for dinner. Would be nice, right?
So, we headed on over to Target (the mecca for all things “reasonably priced”) and started looking around. Within minutes, I knew what I wanted: the stylish, yet nicely neutral “Windsor Collection”. Perfect. Let’s pack it up and go.
And then we started doing some quick mental math. Even with a “temporary price cut”, this set was going to cost us a whopping $986 plus tax!
Holy Patio Furniture, Batman! I’m not spending a grand on stuff that will sit outside and get dirty for half the year.
I turned on my high-heeled boots and quickly walked out of the store and straight to my computer. Within minutes, I had logged onto Craigslist and found a very similar set within 20 miles of our house for just $150. And, they agreed to deliver it! Woot and double woot!
Here’s a couple shots of the set on our deck. Can you spy our Boston Terrier, Cooper, standing guard by the furniture in the first shot?

Ah, I love the smell of saved money in the morning.

Hahaha! Saved money in the morning… nice.
So as I was reading this, I thought OH I SHOULD TELL HER ABOUT CRAIGSLIST, but you obviously beat me to it. YAY! I’m glad you found such an awesome deal, and FYI, your deck/view is absolutely amazing, you lucky girl!
Re: As for the treadmill and hanging out with DD, that sounds awesome. The same thing happens with my kiddo. He starts yappin’ away when we take his scooter out or go for a walk.
I have been LUSTING for that Windsor Collection in Target ever since I saw the convertible pergola they had going…it was amazing and cute, but yes, surprisingly pricey, oy! The victory of saved money is even better!
Not sure what I’d do without craigslist. There was a time when I judged a city by whether they had craigslist – now they all have it and I need a new rubric
The joy of Craigslist. I am the same way about outdoor furniture. We have so many trees anything in our yard takes quite the beating so I have no desire to spend that much. Great find!
Hello Cooper! Sweet Boston. I have one too, named Bogey. They’re the best. dogs. ever. And sweet deal on the patio furniture for a sweet patio!
good job on the patio furniture! Cute dog by the way =)
The victory of saved money plus MATCHING SET! That’s something I rarely hold out for, but you got it right off. Wonderful
Craigslist is the best! I’m practically addicted to it. My favorite deal was a Crate & Barrel table & chairs for my breakfast nook. I picked it out at the store but was determined to find it on Craigslist. My patience paid off, after many months of searching I found it less than 4 miles from my house for less than a third of the price.
ok, now i’m officially envious – $150 and they delivered??!! now that’s a deal – it feels like you can’t even get one chair for $150 anymore. i always forget about craigslist…thanks for the reminder. can’t wait to go home and see if i can finally find a round table that’s affordable
btw, your patio is just gorgeous – the landscaping, beautiful!
Well at you it has very lovely turned out =)
I think the key, for me, is allowing myself enough time to find something that’s exactly right. If I “want it now”, then I can be tempted to just buy what’s available, even if it’s not right or too expensive.
If I take a longer view, I can get both what I want, and the price I want it.
What a good idea! You saved a bundle, and the set looks so nice!
I’ve been looking on Craigslist for over 2 years for patio furniture and haven’t found “the one” yet. Yours looks great, and I haven’t read many great reveiws on Target’s outdoor furniture (at least they weren’t that positive a year ago).
Buying on craig’s list is not only much more thrifty, but much more green too!
I think you’ll have a great summer eating on the deck. Have you invited friends over to christen the new set?
WoW! Very stylish pieces you have there. And they look quite relaxing. I am also an outdoor furniture lover. I have various pieces at home. Most are made of wicker and teak. I got all of them from an online sale . They’re really a great value for money.
Here’s the site by the way: http://www.cozydays.com/ . They’ve got great designs. Hope it helps.
Ha ha… I was just browsing around and took a look at these feedback. I can’t believe that there’s still this much fascination. Thanks for writing about this.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
