Today, a not-so-easy challenge, but a short one:
Look at your overall To Do List and scan down to the bottom. I’ll just bet that those items are the ones you really don’t want to do. Could be for a good reason, could be you’re blocked for some small, stupid reason.
But those items are the ones that niggle at your sub-conscience. They’re the ones that weigh you down and wake you up in the middle of the night feeling vaguely uneasy.
Today, choose one and either do it completely OR take one single step toward getting it done. If you take that single step, put on your calendar that one week from today you’ll take another single step.
When you’re done, you’re gonna feel loads better. Promise.
Here’s mine: I have to rent a small, ancillary space for my day job. This is annoying and, more importantly, feels like something that’s taking time from things that are more important. Nevertheless, it must be done for a couple different reasons that aren’t going away. It’s been bugging me for days. Today, I called the rental agent and set up a meeting. It’s on my calendar and I feel better.
If you’re up to sharing in the Comments, I’d love to hear what that one thing was and how you kicked it’s ass.

Yesterday I finally conquered something that’s been souring my to-do list since January. I gutted and reorganized my studio space. It was an all day job, but I feel like a new woman. Next week will be the master bedroom closet. Yikes! Every month I make a list of five business goals. I always add one, and only one, dreaded task. It’s a great way to avoid too many unsavory projects from piling up.
This is such a great way to work through tough weeks. I just did this for my next month of lesson plans and it feel great to have them done.
I’ve been a stay at home Mom for the last 3.5 years – now that I am newly single and starting life over I have to also embrace the working world again. SO scary! I don’t want to leave my kids and my heart breaks at the thought of droping them off in someone elses care – but today I committed myself to applying for no less than 5 jobs. I did it. And it was HARD.
Great post!
Instead of doing the other things on my list today – I spent the entire day putting away every thing that was left to be unpacked in our Master Bedroom. This made a huge difference – it’s surprising how quickly it lightened my mood and reduced our stress level. Hopefully it’s the beginning of a spring cleaning trend.
I’m completely laughing right now…just looked at my to-do list and yep, way at the bottom are things that I’ve been putting off for weeks now. I just keep moving them to the next day! You’re so right…I need to just do one and get it off the list…sigh…are you sure I can’t put it off again
Okay, I’m off to get one of these done.
Great post. You are so right about how that lingering task occupies space in my inner world. I’m up for the challenge. Not to mention, I love the feeling of checking off a long-standing task on my to do list. The satisfaction is glorious. Thanks, Meredith.
This was a great help, thank you! I finally got around to clearing my email inbox! Thanks Meredith!
Ergh… hemming my husband’s stack of too-long khakis. I WILL start that today. Thanks.
