Average hours of sleep: Between 6–7 hours
Wake-up call: We wake up fairly naturally, but have an alarm using this app as a back up.
First thing: Serious cuddle time with my hunky husband. This is non-negotiable. We don’t allow our son to come into our room until 7am because we take our alone time seriously. Sacred time, people.
Keys to success: My husband is very much a partner in our mornings and that makes all the difference. He makes my coffee (including an extra cup for the road if I’m going to my office) and makes our bed. He also often will take out the trash or help with Jackson to make things easier for me.
The rundown: I don’t love to move super fast first thing in the morning, so my routine is just that, routine, down to the minute, but with time for a leisurely entrance into the day.
6:15am: We wake up and talk or… cuddle. Oh, what am I saying? We have sex. We’re all adults here.
6:50am: Johnnie gets up and goes into the living room to do sit ups and make coffee. I spend 10 minutes catching up on email and putting out any fires that might have come up for my East Coast staff.
7am: Jackson joins me in bed for a few minutes of true snuggle time.
7:10am: I get up and join Johnnie in the living room for coffee and the news. Jackson stays in bed watching a few minutes of YouTube videos. Mostly toy unboxing videos. Go figure.
7:30am: Jackson comes out and gets dressed in the clothes I laid out the night before. I go into the kitchen and begin my morning kitchen routine. More on that in an upcoming post.
7:40am: Jackson hops up to breakfast and we chat while I move through that kitchen routine. He also watches some Wild Kratts.
8am: Morning kitchen routine finished, I head into my bedroom to get dressed in gym clothes and throw on some tinted moisturizer and lip gloss. I will usually also gather a load of laundry and throw that in on my way out of the bedroom.
8:15am: I head out to take Jackson to his very nearby daycare. I check in on what’s on his agenda for the day and then head back home.
8:30am: Work out. Usually running or spin class.
9:15am: Breakfast. Every day. I never did that before, but I do now. Read more about why here.
9:30am: Begin work. Though, truth be told, since 7am, I’ve been checking email every 15 minutes or so, responding as necessary. Except during my workout.
What one piece of my routine would de-rail my morning? I could get de-railed if Jackson wasn’t feeling good, of course. That would halt everything.
But, more normally, my biggest stumbling block is if I let work creep in before I get my workout done. I’m much better than ever before at keeping that appointment with myself, but that’s a constant battle.
