It’s hard enough for me to figure out what to get my husband and children for Christmas. Ask me to buy a Host or Hostess Gift when I’m invited to a holiday party and I’m absolutely useless. Same thing applies to gifts for very extended family or that family friend I just heard will be joining us for the holidays unexpectedly. Panic!
Luckily, our friends at Martha Stewart and Real Simple have given us a some good ideas get us out of these awkward gift-giving scenarios. Real Simple brings us Gifts for Under $50: Universal Crowd Pleasers. Martha pipes in with Hostess Gift Ideas. Both are good resources and deserve a skim.
Happy Last Minute Shopping, Penelopes! Stay safe as you travel from party to party.

Love, love, love the new website design – especially your to do list! I gave little jars of local honey from the farmers’ market this year. Tied them up with a wooden honey dipper and bright green ribbon.
Soooooo glad you like the new design, Gretchen. It’s been so fun to do the redesign! I really want you guys to like it.
Thanks to everyone who’s emailed me to say great things about the new design, means the world!
Love the new look!
Thank you so much for this blog post. I am the worst offender with hostess gifts. I usually do the same old boring bottle of wine in a cute gift bag. The problem is when I get to the party everyone else has brought the same thing. I really like the new ideas. My favorite is the Reissued Classic Books. Not only is this a great gift for book lovers but it is also a great gift for design fanatics. These books would look eye catching on any bookshelf.
I love the baguettes w/ jam idea. That is such a refreshing change. Like Denise, I tend to get stuck in the wine rut (or if I’m feeling really creative, locally made cider). Bores me to think about it so I’m thrilled to have great new ideas
@Lisa and Denise: I’m with you, we all like the idea of doing some new and different, but, I gotta say, a good bottle of wine is always appreciated!
I have been coveting those books from Anthro forever. If only I had a beautiful wall of built ins to showcase them in. Sigh.
Hi,
You really know your stuff… Keep up the good work!
Hi,
Nice job, it’s a great post. The info is good to know!
I’ve been looking around #hostname and actually am amazed by the exceptional content here. I work the night shift at my job and it really gets boring. I’ve been coming right here for the previous couple nights and reading. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been enjoying what I have seen and I just can’t wait to read more.
