We thought it might be fun to do a sometimes-series on favorite rooms of our homes. They might be the favorite for many reasons, the look, the use, the organization… First up, a focus on contributor Jenna Miller’s 1 year-old son’s nursery.
Favorite room: My favorite room in our house is the nursery—hands down.
Why is it your favorite? It’s my favorite because it contains the most precious little chunker in all the land, but besides that, I’m really proud of how it turned out. I had a vision for this room and made it a reality. I give myself a subconscious pat on the back every time I take a moment to admire it.
Moreover, this room is full of memories and emotion. Every time I see the baseball stitching on the wall, I recall a 9-month pregnant Jenna stooped down with a giant belly, rubbing the giant decal with a plastic stick. Every time I see the glider in the corner, I remember our dear friend who handed it down to us. Every time I see the room in a pristine state, I remember the anticipation of our baby’s arrival. Just so much good juju there.
What was your inspiration for the decor/set-up? I knew I wanted a baseball nursery as soon as I found out we were having a boy. My husband played baseball through high school and college, and I’ve just always pictured him coaching our son one day. I probably just totally jinxed it and now our little guy’s gonna want to play the drums or ride dirt bikes. If he’s anything like his mama, he’s gonna rebel against what his parents want. #karma
Oh, and Pinterest played a huge part in the overall design. #pinspiration #addicted
How do you keep it clean and organized? We do most of our playing downstairs in the living room or basement, so the nursery is mostly for changing and sleeping. It makes it pretty easy to keep the room clean and organized. Of course, any time I put the baby down he runs amok and tears down everything in his path, but because “everything has its place,” it’s never hard to get things back in order again. Also, taking out the dirty bag of diapers and washing the crib sheets and changing table pad often are crucial.
What details/furniture/items do you love most? I used a lot of my husband’s old baseball items as decor, like his old gloves, balls, bats, and photos. The best part about that is, it really cut down on the decorating costs!
Are there any changes you’d like to make to this room? The closet is very small, so as our little guy grows I’d love to expand the closet space or get a separate armoire for hanging.
