Next in our series called “If You Only Do One Thing”. This is designed to be a task that will take under 10 minutes and can be done with materials you have at home.
We want this to be something quick to do, but which will give you a little feeling of accomplishment all week long.
If you only do one thing, declutter your magazines.
We all have a pile of magazines in our homes and offices. We mean to read them. Over time, this pile grows and grows, even for the most clutter-resistant Penelopes.
Not only do they look ungainly at some point, they sit there and yell at us mentally: “You’re wasting money on me! You never take time to read magazines. You need more downtime! You’re failing at downtime!” Blech.
Time to shut them up. Here’s the plan:
- Set the timer for 10 minutes.
- Go through your pile and decide if you’re really going to read it. Is it too old? Did you already read the best parts? Ditch it!
- Was there a recipe or decor idea you wanted to save? Snap a photo of it and then put it in the “to go” pile.
- Recycle what you don’t want, or take them to a nearby doctor’s or dentist’s office. They love periodicals! (Remember to remove your name and address first.)
I’m so proud of you. Look at that! You kicked some Clutter Butt!
Now go have a cookie.
