I just heard from a reader who was excited that she’d channeled her most authentic Penelope self to push through a difficult project at her job. She wanted to share her excitement with the community. I’m so glad she did.
Marie has a tough sales job. It’s wide-ranging and difficult and requires a ton of determination to meet the aggressive goals she’s set out for herself. And while she loves the challenge, in the last few weeks, she’s been looking for a little, well, zotch to get her re-focused and moved to the next level.
Marie realized that the charts she’d been using, while effective, were a bit cold. They needed… something. So, she let her creative, visual Penelope side come out and decided to create a new wall in her office as a visual symbol of the progress she’s making on several fronts.
She used Excel to create the improved, more colorful charts and delighted in shopping for some new bulletin boards, shiny pins and even cute new colored paper. She spent just a bit of time putting it all together and voila! what had been cold, austere charts is now a Wall of Inspiration.
Marie says: “For me, there’s a magic that happens when a vision meets a plan. That’s what this wall now signifies to me. A visual expression of my intentions.”
I love this. Not just because it looks so much better than I bet it once did, but more because now she smiles when she looks at that wall. She’s motivated to move the pins (which you can’t see because I had to keep the image small to protect privacy, but they sit next to certain places on each chart depending on that project’s progress) forward faster than ever before.
Best of all, she channeled her authentic self to break through some resistance. She’s now flying towards her next goals.
Sometimes making something pretty is just what you need to move yourself forward on a project.
