We Penelopes do it all, right? We work, we raise our kids, we care for our friends and families, we go to school, we keep the house clean, we do everything for everyone and look good doing it.
But geez, all that ‘doing for others’ gets tiring, doesn’t it?
I think we need to have that one thing we do regularly that really is just for us. Something selfish and vain and gloriously unproductive.
For me, that’s a once-a-month pedicure. I do it at my favorite nail spa and always add an extra 10 minute foot/calf massage. It’s $35 for the whole shebang and worth every penny. I look forward to the pampering and reading trashy magazines while I get it. And, I leave the salon feeling like a foot model.
Hurray for pretty toes!
I realize that $35 isn’t chump change, it’s real money. Being spent on my feet. But I benefit greatly from that single selfish expenditure. It makes me better for my family and my colleagues that I spend this time and money on myself. I truly believe that.
So, what I want to know is: what are you doing for you? What’s your curative vice? How do you treat yourself and how often? If you’re not doing it now, how can you begin to treat yourself at least once a month?
